A new proposal from the White House has placed nine of the country’s most selective universities at a policy crossroads.

On Wednesday, a ten-page agreement called the 'Compact for Academic Excellence in Higher Education' arrived at institutions like Vanderbilt, the University of Pennsylvania, Brown, MIT, and others, asking them to align with the administration’s vision for US higher education in exchange for improved access to federal grants and White House opportunities.
