Apple is working on new satellite-based features that could allow iPhones to work even without mobile networks. A Bloomberg report suggests that the company plans to bring satellite connectivity to Apple Maps and Messages, so users can navigate or chat even in areas with no signal.

The idea is to make iPhones more useful in remote or emergency situations. Apple already offers Emergency SOS via Satellite, which helps users contact rescue teams when there’s no cellular service. It was introduced with the iPhone 14 in 2022.
