Public safety groups face an uncertain future months after federal grant cuts

Six months after the Justice Department cancelled more than $800 million in federal grant money, many groups on the receiving end are still reeling.
The cuts, focused on community safety initiatives, affected hundreds of organizations around the country and were far-reaching in scope: school violence programs, training for rural police officers, resources for domestic violence victims and hate crime prevention.
At the time, Attorney General Pam Bondi said the department was cutting millions of dollars in "wasteful grants," highlighting efforts geared toward transgender and LGBTQ communities.
NPR spoke with 10 affected organizations to see how they've fared.
