President of the Barbados Sheep Farmers Inc., Rommel Parris is warning that the Barbados Blackbelly sheep population has fallen to such a critically low level that the island can no longer afford to export a single animal, despite rising regional demand.
However, he noted that the Barbados Agricultural Society (BAS) is moving to revive the long-dormant Blackbelly sheep registration system to rebuild adequate stock levels.
“I don’t think at this time we can export any more sheep…,” Parris told Barbados TODAY on Friday.
“I have had to say ‘no’ on numerous occasions because for me personally, I don’t think at this time we can export any more sheep….
