The Year of the Snake and the blooming of Chinese festivals here

We are now in the middle of the annual Chinese Spring Festival, which celebrates the Chinese New Year for 2025. This year, these festivities began on January 24 and will end on February 12, the day of the Chinese Lantern Festival. These mark the Lunar New Year according to the Chinese calendar, which starts off The Year of the Snake. It is the largest festival in the Republic of China, celebrated with national holidays, banquets, family reunions, revelry and other activities in keeping with cultural traditions with a theme of renewal and good fortune.

This New Year and Spring Festival have become new additions to the cultural landscape of Guyana. The events have reached a high point in this country where the celebrations had an official opening with performances of dance, music, Chinese cultural traditions, speeches and a reception at the Embassy of the Peopleโ€™s Republic of China in Guyana on January 24. It was hosted by Huang Lui, Charge dโ€™Affaires of the Embassy.
