A common childhood virus could be the hidden trigger behind lupus, a chronic autoimmune disease that affects millions of people worldwide, major new research has found.
The study, published this week in Science Translational Medicine, points to the Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) β a pathogen carried by more than 90 per cent of adults β as the likely cause of the disease.
