What began as one man’s attempt to find his stolen iPhone has turned into one of the biggest police crackdowns on mobile phone thefts in the UK. Thanks to Apple’s tracking feature, police have managed to dismantle a global smuggling network that allegedly shipped tens of thousands of stolen iPhones from London to China over the past year.

According to the Metropolitan Police, the gang had been operating quietly but on a massive scale, smuggling close to 40,000 devices worth millions of pounds.
