The 2025 Nobel Prize in Physics has been awarded to three scientists whose early experiments turned the abstract world of quantum mechanics into a foundation for real machines. The Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences honoured Michel Devoret, John Martinis, and John Clarke “for the discovery of macroscopic quantum mechanical tunnelling and energy quantisation in an electric circuit”.
