Prime Minister Mark Carney is calling for a swift implementation of the first phase of the U.S.-proposed peace deal between Israel and Hamas, following news of an agreement late Wednesday.
U.S. President Donald Trump said that means Hamas will release all remaining Israeli hostages and Israel will withdraw its troops "to an agreed upon line."
Carney congratulated Trump and representatives from Egypt, Qatar and Turkey for helping reach this first step.
“I am relieved that the hostages will soon be reunited with their families,” Carney wrote in a social media post.
“After years of intense suffering, peace finally feels attainable.
