"Why. There is a big question," was part of a Facebook post of Garima Saikia Garg, the bereaved wife of Assam's cultural icon Zubeen Garg. That question is on the minds of millions of people in Assam and across India after five arrests and 20 days since the singer-actor's death after a sea outing in Singapore. For now, politics and mass hysteria seem to have overshadowed thought and reason.

Why, is in fact, the biggest question right now. But there's not one, but many whys.

In the last 19 days, Assam saw an emotionally charged atmosphere with lakhs taking to the streets to bid adieu to its star of the century, and politics, which Zubeen Garg abhorred, played out over his death. Allegations and counter-charges piled up.

Even Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, who left the campaign for the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) election immediately upon knowing of Zubeen's death, and arranging for his mortal remains to be brought back and a state funeral, wasn't spared.
