In the last six months or so, I have tried a number of earphones and headphones, ranging from more mainstream ones like the OnePlus Buds 4 to high-end pairs like Sonos Ace. And my impression has been that even though most of these audio products offer something or other, and mostly justify their price due to their design, convenience and smart features, they all sound kind of generic. None of them can match the sound you could get from Rs 20,000 or Rs 30,000 wired headphones a decade ago.

This is a pity because good sound, something that can make your ears feel the music, is magic. And by feel, I don’t mean the bass. When it comes to bass, all audio companies seem to have decided to treat it as an utmost priority. Bass is a low-hanging fruit and anyone making a pair of headphones or buds has focused on it.
