When Shubman Gill was made the captain of the Indian Test team, there were many doubters. Some felt his place in the Indian team was still under the scanner as the 26-year-old continued to show flashes of brilliance but was missing that one big spark.
Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, and many of the other legends had it during their time in Test cricket, but Gill seemed to lack that one career-changing outing. In 2021, he had 478 runs from nine matches with an average of 29.87. The following year, it was 178 runs from three matches, which included a 110. During 2023, in six matches, he scored 258 runs, and 2024 saw him accumulate 866 runs in 12 matches with three hundreds and three fifties.
