Finnish actor Jaakko Ohtonen ('The Last Kingdom') will play Jesus in Mel Gibson's forthcoming 'The Resurrection of the Christ', replacing original lead Jim Caviezel from the 2004 film, 'The Passion of the Christ'. Filming for the movie began last week at Rome’s Cinecitt Studios, featuring an entirely new main cast.
More than 20 years ago, Gibson shot the original 'The Passion of the Christ' at Cinecitt, as reported by Variety.
