Biocon helps manufacture affordable medicines for diseases like cancer, but it might not have drugs for Bengaluru's mess and Karnataka's politics. Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw, who founded Biocon in Bengaluru and grew it into a globally recognised biopharma company, was forced to write what she had always held in her heart.

"I was born in this city and have spent seven decades loving my city, my Kannada culture and can read, write and speak this wonderful language. I don't think I am answerable to anyone who questions my loyalty to Karnataka. I am a proud Kannadiga," posted Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw on X on Wednesday.

Mazumdar-Shaw, who started Biocon with just Rs 10,000 in seed money, has given Bengaluru a company that it can be proud of. However, hatred, like anger, makes people go blind.
