The UKβs Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) has expanded its methanol poisoning warning to cover eight additional countries where incidents have been recorded among British travellers.
The new advisory now includes popular tourist destinations such as Japan and Mexico, extending guidance already in place for countries such as Thailand, Laos and Vietnam.
The update is part of the FCDOβs βKnow the Signs of Methanol Poisoningβ awareness campaign, created to highlight the dangers of bootlegged or adulterated drinks.
Hamish Falconer, the UKβs minister for consular and crisis, said methanol poisoning βcan killβ and is difficult to detect in time to save victims.
