The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has issued a notice to the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) over widespread violations of norms governing the reuse of cooking oil.

Despite years of public awareness campaigns, small food joints and roadside vendors continue to use cooking oil multiple times, a practice that India’s top human rights body has termed a serious public health concern and a violation of basic human rights.

In a notice dated October 22, the NHRC sought state-wise data and an action-taken report from the FSSAI within two weeks.
