Politician-cleric Maulana Tauqeer Raza Khan is behind bars. The alleged mastermind of the 'I Love Muhammad' protests that turned violent in Bareilly is a habitual troublemaker and a power magnet for the Congress, Samajwadi Party, and BSP. Tauqeer Raza, who's in the State's crosshairs following the unrest in Bareilly ka bazaar, is the descendent of Ala Hazrat, the founder of the Barelvi Sunni order. He has been convicted as the mastermind of the 2010 Bareilly riots, which saw weeks-long violence in which dozens of people were injured and temples attacked.

After 'l Love Muhammad' protests in Bareilly turned violent last week, leaving dozens of policemen injured, Maulana Tauqeer Raza Khan, founder and chief of the Ittehad-e-Millat Council (IMC), was among the 73 arrested. Khan's name appears in seven of the 10 cases related to the violence, and he has been sent to 14-day judicial custody. Police said he was the "mastermind" of the chaos where thousands were instigated to pelt stones.
