The All India Ophthalmological Society (AIOS), the world’s largest professional body of eye specialists, has urgently appealed to the Centre and state governments to impose an immediate ban on carbide-based and improvised explosive firecrackers.
The call by AIOS, which represents over 28,000 ophthalmologists, comes amid an alarming surge in severe eye injuries across the country, particularly among children, during the recent festive season.
