One in five German municipal energy providers plan to decommission gas networks by 2045, while the federal government builds 20 gigawatts of new gas-fired power plants — conflicting strategies as cities phase out heating gas and the nation maintains gas for electricity generation.
According to a survey by the German Association of Local Utilities (VKU), 19% local utilities services plan to decommission their gas network by 2045 at the latest.
