When Indiaβs first-generation home entertainment carnival took off on TV with the advent of Doordarshan in the eighties, comedy was pretty much defined by one show β βYeh Jo Hai Zindagiβ, every Friday at primetime. Put simply, it was about a young middle-class couple, Ranjit and Renu, played impeccably by one of televisionβs greatest comic duos ever, Shafi Inamdar and Swaroop Sampat. The picture of chaos in their lives was completed by Renuβs young brother, Raja (Rakesh Bedi in his television debut).
