A log of wood lying on the soil in a forest serves as a barrier for a passerby and fuel for a camper. For most people, it is just a piece of a tree that has possibly lived a lifetime.

But, for a sculptor, it is a tangled web of possibilities, heavy with its own history, waiting to spark a discourse yet to be explored. It is not nothingness but a blank canvas with a crowded space that is sleeping, waiting for its birth.

The discipline of creation has principles that go far beyond the studio, utilising elimination through asceticism, that is, being able to differentiate the smaller from the greater to include only what is important, coupled with an undeterred focus and patience.

This is where a sculptor begins to differentiate himself or herself from the unqualified.
