South Koreaβs President Lee Jae-myung has presented Donald Trump with a golden crown and medal on the final leg of his Asian tour, as the US president seeks to iron out a trade deal with Seoul that appears more elusive.
After a warm meeting with Trump at the White House in August, Lee showered Trump with gifts on Wednesday in the southeastern city of Gyeongju, presenting him with a medal representing the Grand Order of Mugunghwa.
Trump was the first US president to receive South Koreaβs highest honour, according to Seoul.
βItβs as beautiful as it can possibly beβ, Trump said, adding that he wanted βto wear it right nowβ.
The US president also received a replica of a royal crown from the Silla Kingdom, which existed from 57 B.C. to 935 A.D. The original crown was found in a tomb in Gyeongju, the kingdomβs capital.
