On October 30, Indian Navy frigates, destroyers and long range patrol aircraft will manoeuvre off the coast of Gujarat as part of Trishul 2025, designed to check triservices readiness to defend India’s south-western flanks. The sri-services exercise is the first since Operation Sindoor six months ago and comes as Pakistan has ratcheted up tensions in region especially around the Sir Creek in Kutch which it has laid claim to.

An Indian Army division with tanks, infantry, artillery and helicopter gunships will join IAF Su-30MKIs and Rafales in the fortnight-long military manoeuvres.

Sixty years ago, the opening salvoes of the Indo-Pakistan war of 1965 were fired in and around the state of Gujarat. On April, the Pakistan military used newly-acquired Patton tanks and F-86 Sabre jets to launch a thrust into Kutch.

On September 1, Pakistan launched Operation Grand Slam, an armoured thrust at Akhnoor, to sever India’s land bridge with Jammu and Kashmir.
