US President Donald Trump called his meeting with Chinese leader Xi Jinping on Thursday amazing, saying it led to very important decisions. But China’s first public response was far more cautious, hinting that any deal is far from finalized.
The two leaders met for nearly two hours on the sidelines of the Pacific Rim summit in South Korea, agreeing to roll back some tariffs and to keep talking on broader trade issues. Sensitive topics such as Taiwan did not appear to be on the table this time.
