A federal judge has ordered President Donald Trump to unleash emergency funding for a critical food assistance program on the brink of running out of money to help feed millions of Americans.

Another federal judge has ruled that the government is likely illegally blocking emergency funding for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), hours before those funds are cut off.

But the president — who is spending the weekend at his Mar-a-Lago residence as the federal government stops funding SNAP for the first time in decades — says he first wants the courts to “clarify” how he can legally fund the program “as soon as possible.”

He blamed Democrats in Congress for the impasse over a short-term funding bill to reopen the government and continue funding SNAP, but “even if we get immediate guidance, it will unfortunately be delayed while States get the money out,” he wrote Friday night.
