At least ten devotees, mostly women and children, were killed and 13 others were injured in a stampede at the Sri Venkateswara Swamy Temple in Andhra Pradesh’s Srikakulam district on Saturday. The stampede occurred amid a heavy rush of devotees at the temple during Ekadashi, an auspicious day for Hindus, the officials said.
"The stampede occurred at Venkateswara temple in Kasibugga town at around 11.30 am," said Kasibugga sub-division in-charge DSP Lakshman Rao. Rescue operations are underway and the death toll is expected to rise further.
