The idea of eating healthily, as tempting as it sounds, is closely tied to affordability.
With rising food prices and urban lifestyles, many in India still struggle to put together a balanced meal that meets nutritional needs at one time, let alone for three different times of the day.
But of late, things have changed. As there is growing awareness about macronutrients and micronutrients, for the first time in years, the cost of a nutritious diet has actually reduced, at least in some parts of the country.
RELIEF FROM RISING FOOD PRICES
According to IndiaSpendβs new Food Price Watch dashboard that tracks real-time grocery prices across India to estimate how much a balanced, vegetarian diet actually costs, a family of four spent an average of Rs 6,519 in September 2025 on groceries - a 2.7% drop from August.
This might sound like a small improvement, but in a country where food makes up nearly half of household spending in rural areas and 40% in cities, even minor changes can make a difference.
