On October 25, a massive chunk of glacier broke away from the Ismoil Somoni Peak in Tajikistan’s Tajikabad district and thundered down the mountain. The ice mass – two kilometers long, 150-200 meters wide, and 25 meters high – began moving at 11 a.m. and continued its descent until early afternoon. No casualties were reported, but authorities warned that heavy rainfall could trigger additional collapses, putting downstream villages at risk of flooding and landslides.
