Rana Tanveer calls the move an attempt to keep prices high

Sugar millers got a stay order from a provincial court on Friday against Punjabโ€™s orders to start crushing from Saturday (today) โ€“ a move the federal minister for national food security said was in breach of an agreement and meant to keep commodity prices high.

The millers have managed to delay the crushing season for at least a few more days amid depletion of stocks to critical levels. Under a July agreement with the federal government, the millers were supposed to begin crushing on November 1.
