Six-month-long incessant rains, between May and mid-November, played havoc in coffee plantations, and as a result India’s coffee output this year is estimated to be down by 30,000 tonnes, according to the Karnataka Planters’ Association (KPA), a body that represents coffee growers in Chikkamagaluru, Hassan, and Kodagu districts, which account for over 70% of the country’s total coffee production.
The country’s coffee production for 2025-26 crop year is likely to be 3,73,000 tonnes as against the Coffee Board’s post blossom yield estimate of 4,03,000 tonnes, said the KPA.
