NEW YORK — Jazz Chisholm Jr. looked down at his hands like he had just dropped a glass vase. The New York Yankees were already down a run to the Toronto Blue Jays with one out in the seventh inning, their postseason rapidly slipping away. But then Andrés Giménez’s one-hopper kicked off Chisholm’s glove and trickled behind second base, allowing the runners to reach the corners. The gravity of the mistake sucked the life out of Yankee Stadium, and it shocked Chisholm.

Two batters later, a single scored them both, helping create a gulf the Yankees couldn’t overcome in a 5-2 season-ending loss in Game 4 of the American League Division Series.
Chisholm’s miscue was glaring because of how it seemed to tank the Yankees in the moment. But it was also emblematic of a night of disappointment that in so many ways reflected the warts of the Yankees’ entire 2025 campaign.
