In a major development to exert pressure on Iran, the United States has sanctioned nine India-based companies and eight Indian nationals involved in trading in Iranian oil, petroleum products, and petrochemicals. The move is intended to cut off Iran's revenue streams and disrupt its alleged support for terrorist groups, freezing all US-based assets of those in the sanction list.

The sanctions are part of the US continued "maximum pressure campaign" targeting Iran's energy export infrastructure.
