Pakistan have recalled former captain Babar Azam to their T20I side for the first time this year, offering him a lifeline to revive his career in the shortest format of the game. Babar had not been selected in the T20I set-up since Pakistan's tour of South Africa in December 2024, when newly appointed head coach Mike Hesson signalled a transition. Following Pakistan's disappointing performance in the Asia Cup, where their batting frailties were exposed, the selectors appear to have turned back to Babar, who himself is going through a lean patch across all formats.
