Some people in Jamaica have managed to stay online via Starlink, the satellite internet service operated by Elon Musk’s SpaceX, even as outages are cutting mobile data and Wi-Fi access for others on the island during Hurricane Melissa.

Starlink’s promise to work in even the most disaster-struck areas will be put to a serious test by the hurricane, which made landfall around noon local time on Tuesday as a Category 5 storm.
