As India's infertility rates climb, doctors warn that the high numbers of vitamin D deficiency might be worsening the crisis.

A landmark 2018 study by the Reproductive Medicine Network found that women with vitamin D deficiency (below 20 ng/mL) and polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) were less likely to ovulate and had a 40% lower chance of live birth compared to women with normal levels.

These women also faced a higher risk of early pregnancy loss. While the link was strongest in women with PCOS, it was not seen in those with unexplained infertility.
