Naveen Yadav is the Congress candidate in the by-election in the Jubilee Hills assembly constituency in Hyderabad. That is for the Election Commission records. Because for all practical purposes, Revanth Reddy is the person who is being tested. Because a victory would cement his place as the undisputed leader in the Telangana Congress, shut up his detractors and ensure he is not disturbed till 2028. A defeat would, however, encourage his critics -- both within the Congress and outside -- to bring out the daggers.

Jubilee Hills is a constituency where the late Maganti Gopinath held sway, first as a Telugu Desam candidate in 2014 and in 2018 and 2023 on the BRS ticket. Like most constituencies in the non-Old city part of Hyderabad, Jubilee Hills has been a BRS stronghold.
