At Sriram Oil Mill in Kerala’s Thiruvananthapuram, the evening rush hasn’t slowed. People walk in to buy coconut oil and by-products, just as they always have. But behind the familiar sight, there’s a story Kerala never thought it would tell, a state famous for coconuts, struggling to find enough of them.

Hariharan, who has run the mill for 40 years, says he now depends heavily on coconuts coming in from Tamil Nadu.
