SAN FRANCISCO — As soon as Chance McMillian got a copy of the picture with Steph Curry, one of his favorite players and someone he grew up emulating, he knew there was one person he had to send it to first.

“Sent it straight to my mom,” McMillian told The Athletic with a smile. “I sent it straight to my mom.”

The immediate reply said how proud she was of her son, an undrafted rookie whose deal with his hometown Golden State Warriors had just been announced earlier in the day.

“You know how moms get,” McMillian said.

But the positive reception went well beyond his family, as a video of the 24-year-old guard’s starstruck moment with Curry quickly went viral.

“Literally everyone I know sent it back to me or said something to me about it,” McMillian said. “It was pretty funny.”

McMillian had waited patiently for his opportunity. He knew not to bother Curry as he posed for pictures during Monday’s media day so he stood behind Warriors photographer Noah Graham, alongside a small group of team staffers and media members, waiting to speak to the star after he finished up one of the many responsibilities players go through during a day that always gives off the feeling of the first day of
