Prof. Bheki Mngomezulu In May 2025, President Cyril Ramaphosa invoked Section 84(f) of the Constitution of South Africa, which states that a sitting president is responsible for โappointing commissions of inquiry.โ This is the section that empowered the president to sign a proclamation for the establishment of a commission of inquiry to determine whether any attempts were made to prevent the investigation and subsequent prosecution of apartheid era crimes. Retired Constitutional Court Judge Sisi Khampepe was appointed to chair this commission.
