California Gov. Gavin Newsom has vetoed a bill that would require the state to develop a fire mitigation strategy, citing the cost — while spending $250 million on a vote to gerrymander congressional districts.

SB 326 would have required “the Office of the State Fire Marshal (SFM) to prepare, and regularly update, a Wildfire Risk Mitigation Planning Framework (Framework), a Wildfire Risk Baseline and Forecast (Forecast), and a Wildfire Mitigation Scenarios Report
