Nine years and an expenditure of ₹20.08 crore later, the government has been unable to open a space theatre at Kerala Science City, Kottayam, and a planetarium building at Regional Science Centre, Chalakudy.

Construction of both structures remains incomplete, according to a latest report of the Comptroller and Auditor General of India for the period ended March 2023.

The report is scathing of the Kerala State Science and Technology Museum (KSSTM), an autonomous institution under the government.
