I understand why mystery writers since Edgar Allan Poe have so often been tempted by the locked-room mystery. Sticking all your characters in a contained bubble (in Poe’s case, a dilapidated apartment on the Rue Morgue) and throwing away the key is a great way to create tension and intrigue.
