SAN FRANCISCO — An NBA contest happened at Chase Center Thursday night.

I swear.

Two of the best players on the planet — the Denver Nuggets’ Nikola Jokić and the Golden State Warriors’ Steph Curry — went toe-to-toe for the first time in this three-day-old 2025-26 regular season. The Warriors prevailed 137-131 in overtime, with the sellout home crowd of 18,064 getting as entertaining a game as you’ll find this time of year.

Despite being there to see it all in person, with a press row seat that offers a bird’s eye view of the action and with the original intention of covering this early Western Conference showdown, it was mostly a basketball blur because of the bombshell news of the day that consumed the league at large.
