For the second consecutive October, the Los Angeles Dodgers are favored to win the World Series over another big-market behemoth. The Dodgers are the greatest collection of talent in the sport, and those stars are four more wins from cementing a dynasty. This is the fifth time in the past decade the Dodgers have appeared in the Fall Classic. They are on the cusp of capturing their third World Series title of the 2020s and becoming Major League Baseball’s first back-to-back champion since 2000.

All of that has brought about big feelings for baseball fans.

Are the Dodgers the model organization in today’s game?

Are they the villain the league needs?

Or have they really “ruined baseball,” as some have claimed?

Earlier this week, I posed those questions and more to The Athletic readers. More than 20,000 of you completed the survey, giving your answers about World Series rooting interests, the Dodgers’ rise and whether they are to blame for an imbalanced state of play. I asked each voter to identify their favorite team, which allowed for analyzing responses by fanbase.

It comes as no surprise that a majority of fans unaffiliated with either World Series team are pulling for the underdog — the team that hasn’t won a title since 1993 — over the defending champs, but that’s a significant split.
