BBC Council leader George Finch said councils should have the power to change statutory walking distances

Children as young as eight could potentially find themselves having to walk up to five miles to school under a council's plan to revise how free home-to-school transport is awarded. Reform UK's George Finch - who gained attention earlier this year when he became leader of Warwickshire County Council at the age of 18 - has written to the government seeking permission to extend limits on how far pupils live from school before they are eligible for the provision.
