The Athletic has live coverage of Dodgers vs. Blue Jays in Game 7 of the 2025 World Series.
TORONTO — Andrés Giménez lofted a broken-bat flare to the opposite field, and in came Kiké Hernández, charging toward shallow left field. Off the bat, it seemed the ball would fall, a pivotal run would score and the Blue Jays would have a fighting chance to extend what could have been one of the most enthralling ninth-inning rallies in recent World Series memory.

Instead, Toronto ended up on the wrong side of the history books.
Blinded by the dome lights at Rogers Centre, Hernández lost the ball, but didn’t break his stride. Hernández snagged Giménez’s liner on the run and darted the ball to second baseman Miguel Rojas, who scooped it on a short hop, doubling off Blue Jays outfielder Addison Barger for the first game-ending 7-4 double play in postseason history. The Dodgers held on for the Game 6 victory, beating the Blue Jays 3-1 and forcing the Fall Classic’s first winner-take-all Game 7 since 2019.
“I was able to hear that the bat broke, so I just got a really good jump on the ball. I came in, and halfway there, the ball got in the lights — and it was just not the right time to stop to see where the ball is,” Hernández said.
“Unbelievable pick by Miggy,” he added. “I didn’t give him the best of throws, but he was able to stay with it. And we forced Game 7.”
