Karur stampede | T.N. government to frame rules and guidelines for public events: CM Stalin

Days after a stampede at actor-politician Vijay’s rally in Karur, which claimed 41 lives, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin announced on Monday (September 29, 2025) that rules and guidelines would be framed for public events held by political parties and other organisations. Once the Justice Aruna Jagadeesan Commission of Inquiry submits its report, consultations will be held with all political parties and other organisations to frame the rules and guidelines, he said. The death toll in the Karur stampede has risen to 41 after a 60-year-old woman, Suguna, succumbed to her injuries. Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman and Union Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting L. Murugan met the victims’ families in Karur.

Battle for Asia Cup trophy continues even after final match

Devajit Saikia, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) secretary, has condemned the act of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) chairman Mohsin Naqvi taking the Asia Cup trophy along with him from the dais after India declined to accept it from him. Mr. Saikia also confirmed that the BCCI will take up the issue in the next International Cricket Council’s (ICC) Board meeting in November. India captain Suryakumar Yadav said it’s the winning team that is remembered, not the trophy as he reacted to his side not being presented the Asia Cup after it refused to accept the top prize from Asian Cricket Council chief and Pakistan’s interior minister Mohsin Naqvi.
