William Corlett vividly remembers the moment when his bid to run 500 kilometres through the Blue Mountains in just seven days seemed hopeless.
Wrapped in darkness, by a remote creek in the early hours of the morning, he was still 40 kilometres from that leg's designated finishing spot.
"I was totally done," Mr Corlette said.
"But we were so remote in the bush that nobody could have rescued us if they tried.

"The only physical way out was to keep going β we were forced to continue, and that was one of the hardest things I've ever done."
