A majority of Liberals want to ditch net zero, paving the way for the shadow ministry to scrap the target and ending months of bitter public infighting over the climate policy.
Opposition Leader Sussan Ley will announce the Liberals' final position on net zero on Thursday after her senior colleagues meet to discuss policy options developed following a mammoth party room meeting that lasted almost five hours.
Liberal MPs and senators converged on Canberra on Wednesday to hash out their views on the party's commitment to net zero emissions by 2050, with more than half of the 49 speakers calling for the target to be ditched.

There was no formal vote in the room, but Liberals all agreed more people were opposed than supportive of net zero, with most putting the figure at about 28 against and between 17 and 22 in favour.
