PM unveils ₹100 coin, stamp at RSS centenary; first-ever depiction of Bharat Mata on Indian currency
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday released a special postage stamp and a commemorative coin, which features first-ever depiction of Bharat Mata on Indian currency, to mark the centenary celebrations of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS). The ₹100 coin features the national emblem on one side, and on the other side, it depicts a majestic image of Bharat Mata in Varada Mudra with a lion, while swayamsevaks are shown bowing before her in devotion and dedication.
TVK postpones Vijay’s Saturday rallies in the wake of Karur stampede
Post the Karur stampede in his rally that left 41 persons dead, actor and party chief Vijay’s similar events planned over the next two weeks are being “temporarily postponed,” his party Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) said on Wednesday. Vijay has embarked on a “meet the people” initiative on Saturdays and has toured Tiruchirappalli, Namakkal and Karur so far. The stampede during his September 27 public event in Karur killed 41 persons and left over 60 injured.
Centre hikes Dearness Allowance/Dearness Relief by 3%; to benefit 1.18 crore employees, pensioners
